Welcome to the DucKon 17 Art Show! We've been planning another exciting DucKon for you and we hope you'll bring or send us more of your wonderful art. This year, our Artist Guest of Honor is Peri Charlifu, whose beautiful ceramics you've been enjoying for the last two years at area conventions. Our convention theme for this year is The Maltese DucKon. If you've seen The Maltese Falcon, you'll understand. If not, see it at the con and be ready for mystery and fun. This year we are trying something new for us. We're planning on offering an "Artist's Gallery" where any artist may sign up to use a table in the art show room for one hour. You may demonstrate your own skills in the medium of your choice, do caricatures, discuss technique with other fans, etc. The tables will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you're interested, use this link Artist's Gallery Request and we'll add you to the list of those wanting to use a table. The actual scheduling will have to be done at the con, after we've all looked at the program book to make sure space is available at a time when you can use it. If you don't see what you need here, please contact us at artshow@duckon.org and we'll try to answer any questions you may have. There are four separate art show forms, all available here: You can download and fill these out and e-mail them to us at: Artist Registration If you need the forms sent to you by snail-mail, just let us know at: Art Show Form Request. We will cheerfully accept either submission type. We're eager to see what you've been creating. We'll be in the same friendly hotel, same room as last time, with the same friendly staff to help you get the most out of the art show. As you're preparing your work, please put a small ID label on it, listing your name and the name of the piece. That way, we hope to avoid some of the confusion that comes from similar titles. Mailed-in art should be sent to: DUCKON 17, c/o Nick DiMasi Please plan for your art to arrive at that address on or before June 1, 2008. If it arrives after that date, we'll do our best to get it to the show, but we can't make any guarantees. Please include your hanging fees and return postage for any art that might need to be returned to you. The only "Reserved" hanging space is for our Artist Guest of Honor, Peri Charlifu. Mailed-in art is placed in the best space available when it is unpacked, which is usually before most artists arrive. Art Show ScheduleCheck the pocket program for any last minute changes.
As always, if you need to make special arrangements for pickup up your art, please let us know as soon as you can and we'll do our best to work with you. DucKon 17 Art Show InformationFeesPlease note that we do NOT charge extra for mailed-in art. We really appreciate your sending us your treasures. We're quite willing to hang and re-pack your art so that we and the fans can enjoy it.
Payment can be made with cash, checks, money orders, or credit card (Visa or MasterCard). Please use whole dollar amounts when setting your prices. 3 bids to auction. We plan on paying the artists at checkout, but if (for some reason) that is not possible, we will send payment by regular mail as soon as we can. Charity AuctionMany thanks to those of you who have been kind enough to donate items for our Charity Auction. We deeply appreciate your generosity and your assistance in supporting the Golden Duck Awards for Excellence in Children's Science Fiction Literature. Young Artists (age 12 and under)The DucKon staff members are extremely proud of our young artists. The same art show rules apply to them, but they won't be charged a hanging fee or commission fee. We also encourage them to make friends with our other artists, take the opportunity to learn all they can from them, and also to check out the panels on art technique held in the Programming Area. Other InfoDucKon reserves the right to make decisions about which art is compatible with our family oriented convention. The decisions will be made on the emotional impact of that art on the Art Show Head on that day at that time. Because DucKon is a non-juried show, we can only ask that yoy send art that you can feel comfortable about sending. We also reserve the right to nurture any artist we feel deserving of it. We cannot guarantee sales, but we'll do our best to help promote your work by providing the contact information you supply us (business cards, etc.) to any interested party. See you, and/or your art, at the con! Melissa ClemmerArt Show Director DucKon 17 June 13-15, 2008 Questions? Contact us at: artshow@duckon.org |
